THE POSTCARD

From Panorama Journal, War & Peace issue.
Set against the backdrop of the November 2015 attacks that shook Paris (and the world), "The Postcard” is a personal essay about having one's foot in one country, and one's heart in another. It's about the emotional burdens of home, and how the insistence to rise above the scope of one's family can become a trap in itself. Embedded in the essay are the silences and losses endured by many Taiwanese families a generation ago, and a grandmother dear to my heart.
